Math:

Though there are no required assignments or minimums, we offer these math games and activities as guidance. We hope students and parents will take advantage of these resources whenever it fits into their summer schedules. Even a small amount of regular practice can help students retain skills and start the new school year feeling prepared.

Math is also found in everyday life. Parents can support deeper understanding in math by asking thoughtful questions such as, “How did you find that answer?” “Is there another way to solve it?” or “How do you know you found all the possibilities?” Giving students time to think through strategies and explain their reasoning helps build strong number sense and conceptual understanding, rather than rushing to apply an algorithm.

Reading:

If your child is beginning to read independently, we recommend sitting alongside them as they begin their reading journey. This ensures children are building good reading habits like sounding out words rather than guessing and monitoring for sense as they read.

Writing:

Have your child practice their uppercase letter formation using the handwriting packet. Give reminders to use a proper pencil grip and start forming letters from the top at the black dot. When your child engages in authentic writing practice, support their sound spelling by stretching out sounds if they ask. It’s okay if they are missing some letters. Praise their effort and don’t forget that illustrations are a part of great stories too!
