Jujitsu (Vs-VIIs)
Our Progressive Kids Jiu-Jitsu Program helps children build confidence, focus, discipline, and self-defense skills through fun, age-appropriate instruction. With a structured curriculum and supportive coaching, students grow both on and off the mat while advancing at their own pace.

Have fun designing, building and bringing to life unique vehicles, cut-outs and one-of-a-kind constructions. Katie will work with the group, helping them bring their work from concept to reality.
Threads and Needles (VIs & VIIs)
In this Add-In class, VIs and VIIs will learn fiber art skills, including simple sewing techniques, to design and make their own creations, starting with a bag or a pillow. We will also dabble in fiber arts, bringing in some weaving and design techniques for our students. It is a super fun class where children can enjoy a quiet and productive space while honing their fine art and motor skills!
Community Roots (VIIIs-XIIIs)*, 4:00-5:00 p.m., Natalie Joseph
Community Roots is a Service Learning Program started in 2020. It functions as a student action group that rallies around the issues that face our school community and the greater neighborhood. Students identify the needs of our community and lead us through the collective challenges that we face. Every Monday we meet to engage in exciting community-oriented activities. Students learn about and support local community centers through urban gardening, recycling and climate change initiatives, health, housing and food services, and many other service opportunities within our school and across our beloved neighborhood.
Debate Tournament Prep (Xs-XIIIs)* - Dedimus Potestatem , 3:15-4:30pm
This class is for more seasoned competitive debaters that wish to focus solely on preparing and practicing for the upcoming debate tournaments. It will focus on more advanced debate techniques, such as framing, persuasive openings, sustainable counter plans, solvency, calls to action, fulfilling the burden of proof and handling impromptu challenging situations in a competitive debate environment. This class is for debaters who wish to grow as competitive speakers and compete in the 2026-2027 MSPDP season. Students in this class are not required to participate in tournaments, but the majority of class time will be spent preparing for upcoming tournaments with the New York Debate League. Students will engage in mock debates to simulate the tournaments they will participate in and will be expected to invest time outside of class working on and rehearsing their cases with teammates.
If your student has NOT participated in the league before, please make sure to email Natalie (nataliej@cityandcountry.org) check-in about their eligibility to join this section. Those that participated in our Tuesday Debate class will be invited individually to compete on the C&C Debate Team.
Girls/NB Hoopsters - (IXs & Xs) 3:15-4:30 p.m. , Todd Rosenthal
Some girls or non-binary players want to try out or continue basketball but are more comfortable expressing themselves athletically in an all-girls/non-binary environment. C&C librarian and basketball coach of 25 years, Todd Rosenthal, offers a unique, developmentally appropriate basketball program. Through a series of engaging lead-up games, as well as small-sided and full-sized scrimmages, children will learn basketball fundamentals and rules within a positive, supportive environment. Players will have fun, feel successful and develop a love for the game as they improve. Beginners and more experienced players are welcome! Open to girls/NB of all skill levels in VIIs-Xs.

Comics & Digital Animation- (Vs-VIIs), Cinema Kidz, 3:00-4:15 p.m.
Learn all about film shot composition, storyboarding, and visual storytelling by making your own comic book and digital animation! Participants will improve their drawing skills through the staging and drafting of an original visual story concept they create on paper. Teachers work with students to help them understand how to use the landscape of each panel and page to create a dynamic story with a delicate balance of artwork and language. Participants will dive into drawing techniques and create original characters and personalities. Next, the comic will be translated into a digital drawing, as kids learn to bring their comic to life using Procreate! Kids will learn frame-by-frame animation and make a short animation.
Graphic Arts and Photoshop- (VIIIs-XIIIs) Kevin Gillespie, 3:15-4:30
Graphic Arts operates on an open studio model, giving students two creative paths each week. The first is an open ended exploratory space where they guide their own projects. If students need some inspiration, there are structured, planned projects including posters, bookmarks, trading card design, board game design, storybook, and comic book layout. Students can work independently or team up with classmates as they explore design and art principles, from layout and typography to collage and Photoshop. No prior artistic or design experience is required, but foundational computer literacy is a must. Students need to be comfortable navigating a computer independently, since diving straight into complex software like Photoshop can be challenging for absolute beginners.
Debate- (Xs-XIIIs) Dedimus Potestatem, 3:15-4:30
The objective of this program is to prepare participants for situations requiring presentation and public speaking. This course incorporates fun theater exercises, creative writing, and media to teach kids how to communicate effectively in different situations. Debate builds digital literacy and multimedia research skills, fosters critical thinking and expanded perspectives, enhances public speaking skills, increases confidence, trains students to listen effectively, and strengthens civic discourse. Participants will learn to draft and present arguments and inform, persuade and motivate an audience in various ways.
Jr. Coders-Group- (Vs-VIIs) iCamp , 3-4pm
Get ready for an adventure that blends engineering and computer science in a fun, hands-on way for K-2 learners! In this combined course, young students will explore the fascinating world of transportation and embark on an exciting journey into coding. They will dive into engaging engineering challenges, from designing airplanes soaring through the sky to building cars zooming on the ground, all while learning the fundamentals of how vehicles work. Alongside this, students will use age-appropriate coding tools and activities to solve challenges and navigate virtual environments. Through these interactive experiences, students will develop essential problem-solving, logic, and computational thinking skills in a playful and accessible way. Whether they're engineering a train or writing code to guide a virtual robot, this course will inspire young minds to become confident engineers and coders.
Studio Arts- (VIIIs-XIIIs) Private Picassos, 3:15-4:30
Children will be introduced to new ideas and techniques using a variety of different two and three dimensional materials. These will include, clay, drawing, printmaking, collage and construction and painting. Materials will be used alone and in combination with one another. Emphasis will be on helping each child to develop their own particular ideas and areas of interest. This is an open style art studio class where students can feel free to express themselves through art with access to our amazing art room!
Code Crafters: Mastering the Multiverse of Game Design- (VIIIs-Xs) iCamp, 3:15-4:30
Take your game design skills to the next level in this culminating course for advanced coders! Newcomers and coding veterans will delve deeper into the mechanics of game development, exploring complex programming techniques to create immersive player experiences. Coders will harness powerful tools to develop multiplayer games, integrate AI-driven opponents, and add dynamic environmental effects. This course will also guide students through the process of publishing their games, complete with unique branding and polished user interfaces. By the end of the course, students will proudly showcase original creations in a game expo-style showcase!
Hoopsters - (VIIs are Welcome!) (VIIs-VIIIs), 3:15-4:30 p.m., Todd Rosenthal
Learn basketball by playing basketball....Basketball is a creative and dynamic game that draws on an enormous array of skills, from ball handling to spatial awareness to shooting to decision-making, among many others. The most efficient AND fun way to learn the game is through small-sided (1v1, 3v2, 3v3, etc) games that enable experimentation with particular skill-sets (otherwise known as “play”!) and multiple ball touches in the context of common basketball situations. These games form the crux of Todd’s approach, and are preceded by direct instruction drills to ingrain actions and explore solutions, and followed by larger full-court scrimmages that allow players to apply what they’ve learned to the “big game”. We’ve come a long way from the endless repetition of old school basketball practice—this is learning by doing! All genders and levels are welcome. Open to all genders and skill levels in VIIs and VIIIs.
Yoga- (Vs-VIIs), Lhakpa Gurung , 3-4pm
Practicing Yoga is a great way to work on the balance between play and relaxation. Through physical poses, breathing exercises, games, music and storytelling, we will raise awareness of body image, social skills and positive thinking within ourselves and in the world. We aim to focus on mindfulness and having the children find joy in the activity.
Spanish Playgroup (Vs-VIIs), Thais Perroni Patracon, 3-4pm
Spanish Playgroup is directed to children who want to have a first contact with the Spanish Language. Through games, songs, puppets and a lot of art we learn the basic expressions and vocabulary in Spanish. The class is a full immersion experience to train the children’s ears and help them establish connections between the sound of the words and symbols, body language and everyday habits.

Comedy Acting- (VIIIs-XIIIs), Cinema Kidz, 3:15-4:30pm
Step into the spotlight and unleash your inner star with CinemaKidz: Lights, Camera, Laughter! This high-energy comedy and acting lab transforms kids into creators as they build unbreakable confidence and master the art of the punchline. Starting with an explosive writing workshop, students will learn to generate hilarious material on the fly, crafting original scripts for both a wacky TV sketch show and a stand-up comedy routine. From there, we dive into the "tricks of the trade," exploring the secrets of physical comedy, vocal characterization, and the all-important element of comedic timing. After rehearsing to perfection, students take center stage for the big filming, acting in and editing their own professional-grade projects. The CK young actors will finish the class with their very own Pilot Episode show!
